2017 Annual Report + What to Expect in 2018

Dear readers,

I’m a bit early wrapping up the year here on the blog because we are abroad visiting family and I’d like to focus on them during the last few weeks of December.  As always, I sincerely appreciate your support by reading and sharing my posts, purchasing my books/e-products, and sending me messages, emails, and words of encouragement on social media.  Your presence and faith in me is what keeps me sharing in this little online space I created 4.5 years ago.  Thank you!!  As I’ve done the past few years, I’ll share a brief review of the year here at MomentsADay.com as well as a preview of what’s to come.

Review of 2017

This year I published one storybook Garden of Virtues: A Guess-the-Virtue Book for Kids as well as four journals in the series “Little Questions that Make a Big Difference” – for parents, youth, children and young children.  I also created two digital workshops and put together a Printable Pack featuring all the printables on my blog up until August 2017 plus some extras.  You can see more about all of these resources in my shop.

My blog posts this year included a series of interviews with counsellors/coaches about how to talk with kids about various tricky subjects, a book club sharing an awesome read (available in written and audio format) to inspire positive parenting and personal growth each month, and other articles on a variety of topics.  I sent out a monthly newsletter sharing my latest posts and free printables.

In an effort to become more deepened and qualified for discussing parenting issues, I became a certified parent educator in two research-based programs: Tuning in to Kids which is to help parents learn about emotion coaching, and Positive Discipline which shares punishment-free tools for helping children become capable members of society.  I traveled to Melbourne and San Diego, California to attend the necessary trainings.

After 17 months of study (including 19 written and 9 face-to-face assessments), I also completed a Diploma in Counselling with an advanced study major in Child Development and Effective Parenting.

I hosted two face-to-face workshops, one being an introduction to emotion coaching for parents and the other a brain/mindfulness workshop for primary school aged children (these workshops were the inspiration for the digital workshops mentioned above).  Next week I’m also excited to be part of a fabulous book signing event in Auckland, New Zealand at the Massey Library, to share my latest storybook.

What to Expect in 2018

My professional goals for 2018 are to provide more positive parenting and personal growth resources, mainly through printed materials and workshops/classes (both face-to-face and online).

To this end, I am very excited to share that I’ve taken on a new role as the Parenting and Family Section Coordinator at the Wilmette Institute, an online learning centre using inspiration from the Bahá’í teachings.  I don’t often speak about my Faith on this website but it is what inspires all of my work online and in my personal life, so I’m very glad to be working in this new capacity to weave spiritual principles with topics related to parenting.

I’m also going to be offering more programs for children and teaching parenting classes in my local community, faith and non-faith based.

These two endeavours will be taking up a lot of my time so I may be around online a little less next year.  However I will still share a post or two on the Moments A Day blog each month and I also plan to send out a quarterly newsletter with news, featured articles and resources recommendations.  You are welcome to join me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest to stay in touch as well.

Again thank you for being here and supporting me on this journey.  Wishing you a wonderful end to the year and a beautiful start to 2018!
